 It’s a massive problem
and massive opportunity

500 PA Production and deadstock.png

Massive annual production leads to unsold “dead stock” inventory that must be liquidated or disposed of.

To solve this problem:

  1. We use body measurements to customize the dimensions of a parametric 3D “digital” garment, then

  2. Flatten the 3D garment into accurate 2D patterns using our proprietary TrueFit algorithms.

  3. Standard manufacturing processes use these patterns to make the customized garment on demand.

Our solution is different because we have solved two technical hurdles to provide a viable solution.

 Our first technical achievement:

  • The accurate flattening of 3D garments into 2D patterns, while

  • Maintaining the correct distribution of ease, and preserving

  • Pattern geometry and boundary relationships between adjacent pattern pieces.

Problem Solved

Accurate 3D to 2D pattern flattening has been a long sought after goal for fashion technology companies. None have succeeded until now. We use a sophisticated mathematical solution embodied in a set of algorithms we call TrueFit. TrueFit ensures customized garments fit as intended. Every time.

Our second technical achievement is making the application of TrueFit:

  • Affordable,

  • Automated, and

  • Massively Scalable.

Implications

Automating the mass customization of fashion products creates an economic incentive to change that can be more powerful than social motives alone. Fashion products made on demand and customized to body measurements offer higher quality, lower risk, and higher profit. With these win-win motivators, “dead stock” can be eliminated.

The time for half measures and talk is over.

The Trillion dollar fashion industry is collapsing under the weight of pre-paid inventory, retail overbuild, dubious environmental practices and massive amounts of unsold dead stock. It is a classic burning platform forcing the industry to undergo its biggest operational change in history. We are Pattern Automate, a Toronto Canada based start-up. We have the right vision, and the right solution to lead this change.
